I kept wondering what happens during a period of Bitcoin fee congestion. If checkpointing gets delayed because blockspace is expensive or contested, does the security guarantee just... weaken temporarily? Or does the whole system tolerate some lag by design? It isn't obvious from what I've read whether that's been stress-tested against a real fee spike, and that feels like the kind of assumption you don't notice until it's tested by circumstance rather than by design. Looking from the outside, it's the kind of tradeoff that probably works fine most of the time, precisely because Bitcoin's blockspace is usually available enough.
