🚨 BREAKING: FED PROPOSES NEW STABLECOIN RULES
The U.S. Federal Reserve has proposed a new regulatory framework for payment stablecoins under the GENIUS Act.
Here’s what the proposal includes:
🔹 Reserve backing — Supervised stablecoin issuers would need to fully back their tokens with permitted reserve assets, including short-term U.S. Treasury bills.
🔹 Capital requirements — The proposal would introduce standardized capital requirements to address credit and operational risks.
🔹 Risk management — New standards would apply to stablecoin-related activities and firms safeguarding reserve assets.
🔹 Bank-issued stablecoins — The proposal would create an application process for certain Fed-supervised banks seeking to issue payment stablecoins.
The proposals are not final rules yet. The Federal Reserve is accepting public comments for 60 days after publication in the Federal Register.
