đ Trading Tip of the Day â What is Non-Farm Payroll (NFP)?
$BTC
Today's NFP report is a major market event. Here's what this data actually measures and why it moves crypto prices.
đ What is Non-Farm Payroll?
A monthly US government report measuring how many jobs were added or lost in the economy, excluding farm workers, government employees, and a few other categories (hence "non-farm"). Released on the first Friday of each month by the Bureau of Labor Statistics.
đ Why it's one of the most-watched economic reports:
Employment data is one of the Fed's two core mandates (alongside price stability/inflation). Strong job growth can signal an overheating economy that might need higher rates to cool down; weak job growth can signal economic slowdown that might justify rate cuts.
đ How NFP connects to what we've covered before:
Strong NFP (more jobs than expected) â economy looks healthy â Fed may stay hawkish or hike â generally bearish for crypto (as we discussed with hawkish/dovish dynamics)
Weak NFP (fewer jobs than expected) â economy looks weaker â Fed may cut/hold â generally bullish for crypto
đ Why markets move so sharply on this single data point:
Unlike CPI (inflation) which shows price trends, NFP is a real-time economic health check. It's also frequently revised in later months, which is why markets sometimes react as much to REVISIONS of previous months' data as they do to the current month's headline number.
â Common mistake beginners make:
Assuming a single month's NFP number defines a trend. The Fed and serious traders look at multi-month trends and revisions, not just one snapshot.
đ Golden rule: NFP day often brings sharp, fast moves in both directions before settling â this is exactly the kind of event where the risk-management principles we've discussed (position sizing, avoiding leverage during high uncertainty) matter most.
