been thinking about this one for a few days now.

what gets me isn't the tech. the tech is fine. what gets me is the behavioral whiplash it demands.

you've got a guy who's been holding since 2017. he's trained himself to do exactly one thing: nothing. absolutely nothing. don't touch it. don't look at it. don't even think about it too hard because that's how you get rekt. that guy is now supposed to run a node, monitor attestations, and worry about chain reorganizations?

come on.

the slashing mechanism is clever. genuinely. using bitcoin script to enforce behavior without ever moving the coins? that's elegant. but clever doesn't mean practical. clever means you've built something that works in a vacuum.

real world: your validator goes down because aws had a hiccup at 3am. now your bitcoin is gone. not hacked. not stolen. just... gone. because a server in virginia blinked.

and here's the part nobody talks about: who's going to explain that to the guy who just lost his stash? not a custodian. not an exchange. just him and his keys and a transaction he signed six months ago that he forgot about.

the incentive structure is there. the economics make sense on paper. but economics don't account for human error at scale. they never do.

what's going to happen is the same thing that always happens. people will try to do it themselves. they'll mess up. then they'll find someone to do it for them. and we're right back to custodians, just with extra steps and a fancy name.

i don't know. maybe i'm too cynical. maybe the new generation of holders is different. but i've seen this movie before and the ending is always the same.

the architecture is beautiful though. i'll give them that.
