While looking into Dusk, one thing that caught my attention was that its privacy approach isn’t really about making everything completely hidden.

With Dusk, the idea is more about keeping sensitive financial information private while still allowing the parts that need to be visible or verifiable to remain that way.

That actually makes more sense to me for financial use cases.

In traditional finance, not everyone gets to see every detail of a transaction. Some information is private, while certain details still need to be checked by regulators, institutions, or other authorized parties.

So I found the idea of selective privacy on Dusk more interesting than just “a private blockchain.”

My takeaway is that privacy probably works better when you can control what gets revealed, rather than treating everything as either fully public or completely hidden.

I’m curious how far this approach can go when real financial activity starts moving on-chain. Could selective privacy become a more practical model than full transparency?

One thing I noticed while looking into Dusk Network is that privacy isn’t really being treated as an extra feature.

The interesting part is how Dusk uses its Confidential Security Contract standard to make confidential smart contracts part of the actual blockchain design.

That got me thinking about how we usually look at blockchains. Transparency is often treated as the default, and privacy gets added later when someone needs it.

But that doesn’t always make sense for financial applications. You probably don’t want every piece of sensitive financial information sitting openly on-chain just because the network is transparent by design.

What I found interesting about Dusk is that it seems to be starting from a different assumption: some financial data should remain private while the application can still work on-chain.

For me, that’s more interesting than simply calling it a “privacy blockchain.”

It makes me wonder whether privacy will eventually be considered a basic requirement for on-chain finance, rather than something only a few projects focus on.

Something I found interesting while looking into Dusk is that privacy here doesn’t seem to mean “hide everything.”

That was probably the part I understood differently at first.

Dusk has public accounts, shielded transfers, and ways to selectively disclose information when someone actually needs to verify it.

And honestly, that makes more sense to me for financial use cases.

A transaction can be private from everyone on the network while still being possible to prove to the right person.

So the interesting question isn’t really “can this be private?”

It’s more like: “who should be able to see what?”

That small shift in how I think about privacy is probably the most interesting thing I’ve taken away from exploring Dusk so far.

Maybe financial privacy was never supposed to mean hiding everything in the first place.
