a very large amount of bitcoin has been released early from prison. He was given a five year sentence but served only fourteen months before walking free.
Lichtenstein said his early release happened because of the First Step Act. This law was signed in twenty eighteen and allows some prisoners to leave early if they meet certain rules. The law was made to reduce prison costs and give people a second chance.
After his release Lichtenstein shared a public message online. He thanked those who supported him and said he plans to work in cybersecurity again. He said he wants to make a positive impact and move forward with his life.
Not everyone welcomed the news. Many people online were angry about his release. Some questioned how someone involved in such a large crime could leave prison so soon. Others asked where the missing bitcoin is now.
