U.S. Treasury Triples Long-Bond Buyback to $6 Billion as Yields Hit Multi-Year Highs
The U.S. Treasury will buy back up to $6 billion of 10- to 20-year Treasuries on Sept. 10, triple the size of its previous long-dated operation, as part of plans to expand buybacks and improve liquidity in the world’s largest sovereign bond market. The move follows a bond selloff that pushed 30-year yields to their highest since 2007; yields continued rising after the announcement, with the benchmark 10-year yield reaching 4.8528%, its highest since November 2023.
