​What is the Glamsterdam Upgrade?
Glamsterdam is a major combined execution-layer ("Amsterdam") and consensus-layer ("Gloas") upgrade for Ethereum. Following the Pectra and Fusaka upgrades, Glamsterdam represents Ethereum's most significant architectural overhaul since The Merge, focusing heavily on scaling the layer-one (L1) base layer.
​Why was it delayed?
​Originally targeted for June 2026, the Ethereum Foundation pushed the mainnet activation timeline back to Q3 2026 (with a base-case target around late August). The delay was officially called to allow for additional cross-client interoperability testing and to ensure the complex cryptographic mechanisms work seamlessly across all consensus and execution clients under real network loads.
​Core Technical Objectives
​If implemented successfully, Glamsterdam introduces three massive shifts to the network:
​Enshrined Proposer-Builder Separation (ePBS / EIP-7732): It moves block-building directly on-chain, removing the network's current reliance on third-party middleware (like MEV-Boost). This aims to eliminate relay centralization and structurally reduce MEV extraction (front-running/sandwich attacks) by up to 70%.
​Parallelization via Block-Level Access Lists (BALs / EIP-7928): Currently, Ethereum processes transactions sequentially. BALs provide an upfront map of transaction dependencies, allowing nodes to process non-conflicting data simultaneously. This is expected to push the gas limit from 60M to 200M, targeting a massive throughput leap up to 10,000 TPS.
​Gas Fee Restructuring (EIP-7904): It adjusts fees to align with the actual modern hardware cost of storing data, projecting up to a 78.6% reduction in L1 transaction fees while protecting the network from database bloat.
​What do users need to do?
​Regular Holders/Traders: Absolutely nothing. Your ETH remains safe, and anyone asking you to "migrate" or "upgrade" your tokens is a scammer.
