Trading tournaments are a $54M+ market now. Here's who actually owns it.

I built the first public database of every trading competition I could verify. Crypto exchanges, prop firms, forex brokers, the old-school futures championships. 93 events cataloged, 42 years of history, ~130 named champions with source-verified results.
Two things surprised me.

One event held most of the 2026 market. BingX ran a $9.8M single-event pool for their 8th Anniversary. That one tournament carried more cash than every other cash-prize event of 2026 combined. Second place: CoinW's CWTC S1 at $1.2M. Then it drops fast.
The pattern feels familiar. Poker went through it with the WSOP Main Event. Esports followed when The International crossed $40M. Prize money in a maturing sport concentrates into a few mega-events. Middle shrinks. Long tail stays long.

Numbers from the dataset:

Top 10 exchanges hold roughly 90% of all tracked prize money.Top 10 single events hold roughly 60%.USDT-margined perps carry the majority by asset class.Spot competitions pull more weight than expected.

The old money is older than most people think. The Robbins World Cup Trading Championship has been running since 1984. Larry Williams won the 1987 edition returning 11,376% on real money over 12 months. Still the record in a public championship setting.
Modern crypto tournaments have the cash. The old futures championships have the record book. Different games, same sport.
