What is a liquidity pool?
A liquidity pool is a smart contract holding assets that users can trade against or use in a financial application. In a common automated market maker design, providers deposit a pair of assets and traders swap against the pool according to a pricing formula.
Providers may earn a share of trading fees and, on some platforms, incentives. These are not guaranteed returns. The pool’s asset mix can change as prices move; trading activity may be too low to generate meaningful fees; smart-contract bugs can threaten deposits; and incentives may end.
TVL estimates deposited value, but it does not fully describe how much can be traded near the current price. Check the asset pair, depth, recent volume, fee structure, contract risks, and whether rewards depend on temporary incentives.
A liquidity pool is trading infrastructure, not a promise of steady income.
