Retail investors have slowed their purchases of stocks in the US to just US$13.0 billion (net buy) over the past month, the lowest figure since the start of the 2020 pandemic, according to data from Vanda Track by Vanda Research.
The decline reflects a 58% correction (down US$18 billion) from the highest monthly net buying level at the beginning of 2026.
Even though net buying value has fallen sharply, the total trading turnover by retail investors has instead set a record high of US$500 billion. This is because individual investors are now selling stocks almost as aggressively as they are buying them, compressing the accumulated net buy figure.
