Earthquake in the market! The U.S. government moved $1 billion in Bitcoin, and the market went wild šØ
On October 8, a wallet linked to the U.S. government transferred 12,267 Bitcoin worth $1.01 billion. These funds came from the seizure of Bitcoin stolen in the 2016 Bitfinex hack.
People panicked and said they were going to sell, but according to Arkham, no sale took placeāit was just a wallet transfer. The funds went to a new, unnamed wallet and havenāt entered an exchange.
But the move alone spooked the market:
Liquidations:
$2.4 billion liquidated in a week
$1.19 billion in just one day (October 9)
$461 million in one hour
Why? Most traders were in leveraged long positions. When Bitcoin fell from $87,000 to *$80,300*, they were all liquidated.
Where are we now?
š BTC: ~ $82,500
$BTC š ETH: Lost more than BTC - $356M in liquidations
š SOL, XRP, DOGE all fell along with it
The government still holds around 306,795 Bitcoin = $25.5 billion, according to Arkham. So the fear is still there.
The lesson:
Donāt use high leverage these daysāthe market is very sensitive. Any news about the U.S. government can turn everything upside down in minutes.
