The National Council of Commerce and Services (Consecomercio) is back with an idea that sounds like an emergency stopgap but could, in practice, buy some time: hiring three barges with thermoelectric power plants on board, each capable of generating up to 500 megawatts, and connecting them to the National Electric System before the end of the year. The proposal came from its president, José Gregorio Rodríguez, who said the three units would be deployed in the western, central and eastern parts of the country on a temporary basis while the system’s recovery moves forward.
