🏛️ The Bitcoin Pharaoh and the wallet no one can open
Former Búzios waiter Glaidson Acácio dos Santos founded GAS Consultoria and promised 10% a month in bitcoin for two years, with no withdrawals before the end of the term.
In practice, it was a pyramid scheme: the investigation points to at least R$ 38 billion in transactions, and the company collapsed with around 127,000 creditors and more than R$ 9 billion in liabilities.
Arrested in 2021, he still holds a mystery. The Federal Police have a laptop in a vault containing a Dash Core wallet valued at R$ 400 million, but access depends on a password he says he can’t remember. Without the private keys, there is no access to the assets. 🔐
Here’s the lesson in crypto: the password is the only way to access this wallet and its funds. Whoever loses or hides the key loses access—even with the wallet in the hands of the police, it’s impossible to access the money.
💬 What do you think? Should the courts offer benefits in exchange for the password to compensate the victims? Or would that reward someone who defrauded thousands of people?
