Crypto held its ground today — but the real action is happening beneath the surface.
August 5, 2026 Daily Market Recap
BTC is trading around $64,400, up roughly 0.98% on the day, while ETH climbed to approximately $1,880, gaining about 0.5%. BNB sits near $598. Modest moves on the surface, but the context matters.
Total crypto market cap reached $2.27 trillion, up 0.7% in 24 hours, with $52.2 billion in trading volume. BTC dominance holds at 56.5%. The Fear & Greed Index reads 27 — still in Fear territory, though slightly improved from yesterday's 25.
On the institutional front, U.S. spot Bitcoin ETFs pulled in over $170 million in a single day on August 4, with BlackRock's IBIT alone accounting for $111 million of those inflows. That's a meaningful cushion for bulls trying to hold the $64K level.
Macro tailwinds are also in play. Progress toward reopening the Strait of Hormuz and the S&P 500 hitting an all-time high of 7,775 are lifting risk appetite broadly — though crypto is lagging equities, which is worth watching.
On the bearish side, a $4 billion contraction in Tether's market cap over 60 days signals capital rotating out of crypto, and roughly 32,000 BTC moved onto exchanges in a single day — a pattern often associated with selling pressure.
In altcoins, PUMP surged 12% to lead daily gainers, while Polkadot and the XRP ecosystem topped sector performers. On the downside, BEAT dropped nearly 15%.
