The Shilin District Court in Taiwan has sentenced Shi Qiren, the principal person responsible for the BitShine cryptocurrency exchange, to 22 years in prison for fraud and money laundering.
Prosecutors determined that Shi led a criminal group operating under the BitShine brand. After the group was registered with Taiwan's Financial Supervisory Commission, it defrauded more than 1,500 victims using funds totaling over NT$1.27 billion.
