China’s robots built a 'Great Wall'
Six robots worked for around 15 hours at the World Artificial Intelligence Conference (WAIC 2026) in Shanghai to assemble 81,920 miniature bricks into a 3.5-metre-long model of the Great Wall of China.
The demonstration, staged by Chinese robotics company Dexmal together with AI model developer StepFun, involved four robotic arms and two wheeled humanoid robots working on different sections of the structure.
The number of bricks makes a striking headline. But the more important test was whether the robots could perform thousands of precise, repetitive movements for hours without one small mistake derailing the entire job.
For countries such as Pakistan, this is where embodied AI could eventually become relevant. Its first major impact may not come from human-like robots walking through homes, but from adaptable machines working in warehouses, electronics assembly, automotive parts and other manufacturing environments.
The Great Wall was the showpiece. The real race is to make robots reliable enough for everyday production.
