Tether can switch off any $USDT . One company has already been waiting a year for it to be switched back on

On September 24, 2025, Tether froze $2.76M at Conduit. The freeze is linked to a Brazilian investigation into Onix, a former client of theirs

Conduit says it parted ways with Onix back in April, the wallet appeared later, and the Brazilian court does not consider the company a party to the case. Tether has not responded publicly so far. On October 5, the day before USDT’s birthday, Conduit went to court in New York

They’re asking for:
- the unfreezing of $2.76M
- at least another $2.76M in compensation
- the profit Tether earned on the reserves backing the frozen tokens

That last point is clever. The tokens are sitting idle, while the reserves backing them continue to earn income for the issuer

Some of my stablecoins in Earn are also in USDT, so the switch hangs over them too. I’m not changing anything, but I remember whose hand is on it
