#TetherReports$191.5BInQ3Reserves Tether just showed off its Q3 wallet, with record reserves of $191.5 billion, including more than $132 billion in U.S. Treasury bonds. What’s all that money for? To eat well and sleep soundly, of course! While traders struggle to make every dollar and cut their losses, Tether quietly pocketed $1.5 billion in operating profit in just one quarter. Binance Launches $6.3 Billion Recovery Effort After Record Crypto Hack Linked to North KoreaOctober 31, 2026 | Cryptocurrency News Binance, the world's largest cryptocurrency exchange, is facing one of the biggest cybersecurity crises in financial history after hackers stole approximately $6.3 billion worth of digital assets in a massive cyberattack believed to be linked to North Korea. The attack, which occurred on October 29, 2026, has been described by blockchain intelligence firms as potentially the largest cryptocurrency theft ever recorded. Binance has launched an extensive recovery effort, working with international law enforcement agencies, blockchain investigators and cryptocurrency companies to track and recover the stolen funds. Around $3 Billion in Stolen Assets Frozen Binance says it and its industry partners have successfully secured approximately $3 billion of the stolen cryptocurrency. Major stablecoin issuers, including Tether and Circle, played an important role in freezing assets connected to the attack. Tether reportedly froze nearly $1.57 billion in USDT, while Circle froze more than $800 million in USDC. However, approximately $3.3 billion in stolen assets remains a significant recovery challenge. Investigators say hackers have been converting some stolen stablecoins into Ethereum and other cryptocurrencies that cannot easily be frozen by central authorities. North Korean Hackers Suspected Blockchain intelligence companies TRM Labs, Chainalysis and Elliptic have linked the attack to North Korean state-sponsored hacking groups. Investigators believe the operation may be connected to TraderTraitor, a hacking group associated with North Korea's Lazarus Group. Their assessment is based on blockchain transaction patterns, similarities to previous cyberattacks and other technical evidence. North Korean-linked hacking groups have previously been accused of stealing billions of dollars in cryptocurrency to generate funds for the country's government. However, the investigation into the Binance incident is ongoing. How Did the Hack Happen? According to Binance's preliminary investigation, the attackers may have gained access through a compromised laptop belonging to a DevOps engineer. The hackers reportedly exploited weaknesses in Binance's internal systems and transaction-approval infrastructure to execute unauthorized withdrawals. The attackers managed to transfer billions of dollars across multiple blockchain networks, including Bitcoin, Ethereum, Tron and Solana. Blockchain investigators say the majority of the stolen funds were moved within approximately 20 minutes. Binance later revealed that the attack was more complex than initially believed, with investigators discovering multiple potential points of breach. Binance Promises to Cover Customer Losses Despite the massive financial impact, Binance has assured users that customer funds will be protected. The exchange has committed approximately $6.34 billion in company resources to cover the losses and compensate for the affected assets. Binance has also been cooperating with the FBI, the US Secret Service and other international authorities to investigate the incident and trace the stolen cryptocurrency. The exchange temporarily suspended withdrawals while security systems were reviewed and strengthened. Cryptocurrency Market Faces Fresh Pressure The news of the hack triggered significant concerns across the cryptocurrency market. Bitcoin, Ethereum and Binance's BNB token experienced price declines as investors reacted to the security breach. The incident has also raised serious questions about the security of centralized cryptocurrency exchanges and the protection of billions of dollars in digital assets. Binance serves hundreds of millions of registered users worldwide, making the incident particularly significant for the broader crypto industry. What Happens Next? Final Thoughts The $6.3 billion Binance hack is a major warning for the cryptocurrency industry. Even the world's largest exchanges are not immune to sophisticated cyberattacks. Binance Launches $6.3 Billion Recovery Effort After Record Crypto Hack Linked to North Korea

October 31, 2026 | Cryptocurrency News
Binance, the world's largest cryptocurrency exchange, is facing one of the biggest cybersecurity crises in financial history after hackers stole approximately $6.3 billion worth of digital assets in a massive cyberattack believed to be linked to North Korea.
Around $3 Billion in Stolen Assets Frozen
Binance says it and its industry partners have successfully secured approximately $3 billion of the stolen cryptocurrency.
North Korean Hackers Suspected
Blockchain intelligence companies TRM Labs, Chainalysis and Elliptic have linked the attack to North Korean state-sponsored hacking groups.
Binance Promises to Cover Customer Losses
Despite the massive financial impact, Binance has assured users that customer funds will be protected.
Cryptocurrency Market Faces Fresh Pressure
The news of the hack triggered significant concerns across the cryptocurrency market.
The recovery of the remaining stolen funds could prove extremely difficult.
While blockchain technology allows investigators to track cryptocurrency transactions, recovering assets becomes much harder when hackers move funds through decentralized exchanges, cross-chain bridges and other laundering methods.
Binance's ability to recover the remaining funds, strengthen its security infrastructure and maintain user confidence will be closely watched by the global cryptocurrency community.
Final Thoughts
The $6.3 billion Binance hack is a major warning for the cryptocurrency industry. Even the world's largest exchanges are not immune to sophisticated cyberattacks.
Although Binance has pledged to cover the losses and is working to recover the stolen assets, the incident highlights the importance of stronger security systems, transparent operations and investor awareness.
The investigation remains ongoing, and the final outcome could have lasting implications for the future of cryptocurrency security.

Security Incident Update #2 (2026-10-30)
Fellow Binancians,
Over the past 24 hours, our teams have been working around the clock to respond to a serious security incident involving unauthorized withdrawals of funds. At around 2026-10-29 20:05 (UTC), our hot wallets were compromised, resulting in a loss of approximately $6.3B USD worth of token assets.
We recognize the seriousness of this incident and the concern it has caused across our community. We are treating this as our highest priority. We have been working non-stop on security investigation, infrastructure system upgrading, fund loss prevention and recovery. In this update, we want to give a clear summary of what has been done in the last 24 hours and what we are working towards.
We want to be clear about our commitment: Binance will absorb the financial impact of these stolen funds, not our users.
Protecting Our Users
Our first priority is to ensure that users are protected. Binance will cover all stolen funds related to this incident through our Secure Asset Fund for Users (SAFU) and our corporate treasury.
We have already set aside more than $6.34B in company funds, with $5B held in the exact impacted token assets that were stolen, such as USDC, USDT, BTC, ETH, BNB, etc. This means that we have already covered approximately 80% of the impacted amount. We are actively buying the remaining relevant token assets through market and OTC channels. We will continue to provide updates on the progress on our official channels.
What We Have Done
Since identifying the incident, we have taken immediate action to contain the threat and strengthen our security posture. We have:
Contained the compromised infrastructure, revoked affected authorizations and implemented additional controls to prevent further unauthorized activity.Worked with law enforcement, blockchain intelligence firms, asset issuers and industry partners to trace and freeze affected assets. Approximately $3 billion has been frozen on-chain to date. Further recovery efforts to follow. Strengthened security checks across affected infrastructure.Temporarily suspended withdrawals while conducting additional security reviews, implementing remediation measures and validating the integrity of affected systems. Deposits and other unaffected platform services remain operational.Continued working to restore withdrawal services safely.
What We Have Learned So Far
Our tech and security teams are still deep in the investigations of this complex hack.
Our initial investigation suggested that the incident may involve a compromised laptop, however, our subsequent investigation has uncovered additional points of breach.
At this stage, we have found no evidence that wallet private keys were leaked.
The investigation remains ongoing. We are working with internal and external security experts to establish the full attack sequence, identify all contributing factors and determine the appropriate measures to prevent similar incidents.
We expect to share further technical findings within about 48 hours once they have been verified and their disclosure will not compromise ongoing investigative efforts.
What’s Next
We are focused on four immediate priorities over the next few days:
Restoring Withdrawals: The tech team targets to start resuming the withdrawal service within approximately 34 hours, subject to the completion of security checks. This will proceed on a phased approach. We will provide updates as each phase becomes available.Strengthening Transparency and Verification through the Proof of Reserves: We are buying the remaining 20% of the lost token assets. We plan to run an initial Proof Of Reserves snapshot in 12 hours and have the result ready by Monday 2026-11-02. These reports will provide users with an updated view of platform asset holdings and the corresponding backing of user balances. So you can verify for yourself of the latest account balances on our platform. Recovering the frozen stolen funds: We are working with law enforcement, blockchain intelligence firms, token issuers and other exchanges to trace and recover stolen funds. We will pursue all available avenues to identify those responsible and hold them accountable.Publishing an incident post mortem report: We are conducting a full security review and we will provide a detailed technical report outlining what happened, the lessons learned and the additional safeguards being implemented.
Our Commitment
We take full responsibility for addressing this security incident, strengthening our security infrastructure, and ensuring our users are protected.
For verified updates, please follow Binance's official channels only, or contact us directly through the official Customer Support.
Thank you for your patience and continued trust as we work through this.
