Top-tier white hat hacking: the Ledger Donjon research team executed a successful lab attack using laser injection flaws (LFI) on the new Trezor Safe 7 hardware wallet. By directing an infrared laser with a wavelength of 1064 nm at the exposed silicon crystal of the TROPIC01 chip, the experts managed to disrupt the comparison logic and bypass the firmware's digital signature verification. However, there's no need to rush and swap out your device — there’s no real threat to users' funds. First off, the attack requires decapsulation of the chip, extremely expensive gear, and physical access to the gadget. Secondly, the researchers were unable to extract private keys or the PIN code: the Trezor Safe 7 architecture relies on a three-layer protection system (the TROPIC01 chip works in tandem with the certified Infineon OPTIGA Trust M chip and the STM32U5 microcontroller). The chip developer, Tropic Square, has already confirmed the hardware bug and is preparing an updated silicon revision that will close this vulnerability vector at a physical level by the end of the year, proving that open hardware audits only benefit the industry. #TrezorSafe7 #LedgerDonjon #TROPIC01 #HardwareWallet #CryptoSecurity
