SanDisk $SNDK jumped as much as 17% during the U.S. session and closed +13.67%, dragging the broader storage sector higher. SK Hynix and Micron also caught a strong bid.

And unfortunately for me… I was short. 😅 Now I’m sitting on a losing position while the market is pricing in a much bigger story.

Both AI training and AI inference create storage requirements, but what’s worth paying closer attention to after 2026 is inference. After model training is complete, model weights need to be stored long-term. Training data, checkpoints, vector databases, logs, and various intermediate results also need to be stored. Once the model enters the inference phase, every user request requires reading the model and related data. Long-context, RAG, agents, multi-turn conversations, and continuously generated content will all increase data read/write. As AI usage scales from a small number of training tasks to hundreds of millions or even billions of daily inference runs, both the number of storage accesses and the total data volume will grow in parallel. Everyone keeps talking about HBM, but HBF is also extremely, extremely, extremely important. Next is HBF—High Bandwidth Flash. This technology is very important for SanDisk’s future valuation. The most important memory for current GPUs is HBM. Because HBM has extremely high bandwidth, it is especially suitable for directly serving GPU computation. As AI model sizes and KV cache keep expanding, HBM capacity will start to become one of the system constraints.
