In 2026 and there are still people on the left who think we don’t have railways all over <c-1/> #brasil because of the oil lobby. No, my dear! We don’t have railways because of the ideology of austerity, which claims that the State is like a company, and therefore must spend less than it collects. It is because of this ideology that denies the existence of everything that does not generate profit—this TOTALITARIAN market ideology. And this ideology has been in Brazil for a long time; it existed long before the giant oil companies appeared. It has been sabotaging our development since the First Republic. Getúlio tried to bury it, but he only managed to tame it for a brief period. Neoliberalism, on the other hand, made it stronger than ever.

And why the insistence on this ideology—which only brings recession, unemployment, lack of faith in politics, and the strengthening of the far right (Nazism rose in a context of austerity in the Weimar Republic)? Because it favors <t-2/> #RENTISMO and the COMMODITIES capitalism, from which, not by coincidence, our oligarchy lives.

It is this ideology that prevents us from having railways: it’s the spending cap, it’s the macroeconomic tripod, it’s the #superavit , it’s monetarism that denies the political origin of money, it’s the imposition of market logic on everything! As long as this ideology sets the rules, we will never have trains connecting the entire national territory, we will never have a Brazilian high-speed train, we will never have functional metropolitan trains—because, for this ideology, all of that is “deficitary,” doesn’t turn a profit.

Today I saw a left-wing guy trying to refute the biologist Henrique (who joined the MBL) with this hollow little speech—one that does not hold up historically. It has become our crutch to blame the oil lobby, completely ignoring our subordinate position in the International Division of Labor, which benefits a backward oligarchy, totally dependent on the imposition of economic liberalism here.
