The old dog swept over it and noticed that
$PENG is currently at 55.63000, up 5.32% over the last 24 hours. But the funding rate has been pushed down to -0.00138936—this combination is more interesting than just looking at the price increase.
Negative funding means shorts are paying longs, which suggests the short side is more crowded. When the price rises at the same time as funding is negative, the typical tell is that the crowded shorts are getting squeezed. Current OI is 8203.44; the 24-hour volume is 1071561.5012. If the price continues to lift and OI also increases, the squeeze may keep going. If OI drops quickly, then more often than not the momentum fades after shorts cover.
My approach is low leverage—no chasing straight-line moves. I only add when 55.63000 holds and OI keeps expanding. If it falls back below 55.63000 and OI contracts, I cut position and observe. I don’t call a top just because of a 5.32% move. Negative funding shows the crowded direction still sits on the short side, but extremely negative funding can also amplify two-way volatility.
Last time, the old dog chased the squeeze and got stuck near the high—moving slowly still got it harvested.
