I honestly can’t stomach Mochatrade’s marketing pitch. They just raised a $5.5 million seed round, led by CoinFund, with Coinbase Ventures and YC participating. The product lets Indian users deposit rupees via UPI and trade leveraged U.S. stock perpetual futures, such as NVDA and TSLA. Now look at how their promotional account on X describes it: You use Apple products, you watch Nvidia build the future—but can you invest in these companies? Mochatrade makes it easier for Indians to invest in U.S. stocks. Come on, perpetual futures aren’t stocks. You don’t own a single share of NVDA. You get no shareholder rights and no dividends—just funding rates, liquidation prices, and counterparties. Dressing up leveraged derivatives as “making your portfolio global” is no different from calling 100x contracts an investment product back in the day. Their growth tactics look familiar, too. An intern’s account posts, “Feeling grateful after four months of internship,” while also recruiting finance creators to write market content. The top three get onto a leaderboard, have their posts pinned, and are promised “potential collaboration.” According to reports, the official public launch is still weeks away. The waitlist has 25,000 people, and they’ve already started building buzz. It’s genuinely difficult for Indians to buy U.S. stocks, and depositing rupees really is convenient. But the first thing they’re serving retail investors isn’t spot trading—it’s leveraged perpetuals. VCs want trading volume, the platform makes money on fees, and who ends up getting liquidated? I don’t need to spell it out. #美股永续 #Mochatrade

$USDC lands on Friday night: YC-backed Indian team is building perpetuals on U.S. stocksIndians who want to trade Nvidia earnings at 2 a.m. now have another option—at least, they can get on the waitlist. On October 26, Jon Rotbard of CoinFund announced that CoinFund led a $5.5 million seed round in Mochatrade, with participation from Coinbase Ventures and others. YC and Pioneer Fund had previously invested in its pre-seed round. The product logic is straightforward: - Deposit rupees using India’s UPI and get them credited in minutes - Go long or short on more than 50 U.S. stocks using perpetual contracts, including Nvidia, Tesla, and Apple - Margin and P&L are displayed in rupees, and the market never closes
