#KoreanRetailLost6.3TrillionWonOnLeveragedETPs
🇰🇷 Korean retail just got wrecked: ₩6.3 trillion ($4.8B) gone on leveraged ETPs
Between May 27 and Aug 14, retail investors at 10 brokerages piled into single-stock leveraged products tracking Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix.
Result:
• Realized losses ₩2.32T
• Unrealized ₩3.99T
• Total ₩6.31T
40s and 50s took the heaviest hits. Classic FOMO amplified by 2x daily leverage during the AI chip boom… then the inevitable correction.
Leverage is a double-edged sword that cuts hardest when greed meets volatility. Korean “ants” chased quick gains on Samsung & Hynix, ignoring decay and timing risk. Lesson for everyone: high-beta bets without strict risk rules turn portfolios into lottery tickets. Size small, use stops, or stay in cash. Markets always collect their tuition. Stay sharp. 📉
