🚨 The SEC is ready to regulate cryptocurrencies if Congress doesn’t pass the CLARITY Act
The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) said it is prepared to issue new rules for the crypto industry if Congress does not pass the CLARITY Act, a bill that aims to establish clear rules about which digital assets are securities and which are commodities.
If the law doesn’t move forward, the SEC could use its existing powers to create regulations around exchanges, custody of digital assets, staking, tokenization, and other market aspects.
⚠️ However, the SEC cannot replace Congress. Only a law like the CLARITY Act can officially redefine the competencies between the SEC and the CFTC.
📈 For the market, greater regulatory clarity could boost investor and institutional confidence, though it could also bring stricter requirements for companies in the sector.
