Born Ascanio Caracciolo in 1563 in Villa Santa Maria, Italy, to a noble family. Stricken with a severe illness as a young man, he vowed to serve God if healed. Ordained a priest, he co-founded the Order of Clerics Regular Minor (Adorno Fathers) in 1588, dedicated to Eucharistic adoration, strict poverty, and pastoral care. Known for his deep contemplative prayer, love of the poor, and frequent fasting, he served as superior general and established several houses. He died on 4 June 1608 at age 44 while on a journey, after receiving Viaticum. Canonized by Pope Pius VII in 1807.
