A transfer of 16,400 BTC puts the market on alert
On August 3, a portfolio that had been completely inactive for seven months transferred 16,400 bitcoins—about $1.04 billion—reviving speculation about the holder’s intentions. In fact, this move happens when bitcoin is trading around $62,800, far from its all-time high of $126,198 reached in October 2025. In a market where large fortunes can quickly affect liquidity and investor sentiment, an operation like this never goes unnoticed.
An inactive crypto whale for 7 months has moved its entire stash of 16,400 BTC, for a total value of about $1.04 billion.
This move occurs while Bitcoin trades around $62,800, falling by nearly 50% since its all-time high in October 2025.
The transaction represents approximately 0.0781% of Bitcoin’s total supply and is equivalent to about 7% of the daily trading volume in the spot market.
The funds were transferred to a new private wallet and not to a centralized exchange platform, ruling out the idea of a deposit for direct sale.
A $1.04 billion bitcoin transfer
While bitcoin could drop to $40,000 according to Michael Terpin, the issuing wallet is listed under the address “bc1qptc9cz269u2mc5yguun5a5d6yd5c7f7ne4qj26.” According to data reported by the blockchain tracking platform Lookonchain, the entire accumulated reserve was moved in a single, one-time transaction to a new destination wallet. This massive transfer happens in a particularly gloomy market context, marked by limited spot trading volumes on major exchanges.
