The old dog took a quick look:
$ALAB is currently quoted at 321.45000. In the past 24 hours it’s down 9.814%, and the volume field is 6799689.0024. A drawdown of nearly 10% is certainly eye-catching, but the funding rate happens to be 0.00000000. Without an extreme funding-rate signal to go with this bearish candle, just calling for longs to get crushed based solely on the price drop isn’t enough—there’s still a piece of evidence missing.
To put it plainly: a positive funding rate means longs pay shorts, which indicates longs are more crowded; a negative funding rate means shorts pay longs, indicating shorts are more crowded—making a squeeze more likely. Now the funding rate is zero, which suggests there isn’t a clear one-sided situation on the perpetuals. OI right now is 2567.63. The available data input only provides the current inventory at this moment, with no prior value—so the old dog won’t make up an increase/decrease ratio. If OI keeps rising while the price is falling, it often means new short positions are being opened or longs are closing against the move. If the price drops and OI simultaneously shrinks, it looks more like existing positions are being withdrawn. These two paths lead to completely different follow-up trading.
The comparison list is also empty, so there’s nothing to confirm whether this is a sector-wide resonance in the same industry or whether
$ALAB is independently weakening. Therefore, neither leading-loss nor leading-gain can be arbitrarily labeled.
My play is straightforward: 320 is the nearest integer risk level in front of us. If there’s a volume-backed break down and OI continues to rise, I’ll clear my test position and won’t catch the falling knife. If price regains and holds above 330, funding remains close to zero, and OI increases moderately, then I add back to a half position. If the market immediately tags this 24-hour -9.814% as a top, I disagree—because zero funding doesn’t indicate longs are crowded; at present it looks more like the direction hasn’t yet been confirmed by leveraged money. Still, before the OI change sequence appears, I’ll just observe with a light position and won’t make an aggressive reversal bet.
Last time, the old dog only watched the price and not OI—getting stuck in the sharp sell-off and unable to get out. This time, let the data speak first.
