As Ethiopia steps further into the global Bitcoin conversation with rising mining activity and major infrastructure deals one question keeps coming up: how does this actually benefit everyday Ethiopians?

Led by Kal Kassa, BitcoinBirr is an open-source initiative focused purely on education and financial sovereignty. They’re not a trading platform, and they don’t sell coins. Instead, their mission is to help Ethiopians understand Bitcoin as a practical tool for empowerment.

Their impact is built on three core pillars:

1. Breaking the Language Barrier
