The US House of Representatives voted on February 11, 2026 (Wednesday), to pass a resolution aiming to overturn or rescind President Donald Trump's tariffs on Canadian goods. The vote was 219-211, with a rare bipartisan element: six Republican lawmakers crossed party lines to join nearly all Democrats in support.
The resolution disapproves of (and seeks to terminate) Trump's use of a national emergency declaration (under the National Emergencies Act or related powers) to impose these tariffs. Tariffs were introduced in early 2025 (around February 2025), starting at 25% on most goods from Canada (and Mexico), later increased in some cases, partly justified by issues like fentanyl or trade imbalances.
The six who voted yes included Reps. Don Bacon (Nebraska), Thomas Massie (Kentucky), Brian Fitzpatrick (Pennsylvania), Kevin Kiley (California), Dan Newhouse (Washington), and Jeff Hurd (Colorado). Only one Democrat (Rep. Jared Golden of Maine) voted no.
This marks a significant rebuke to Trump's trade agenda from within his own party, amid growing concerns from businesses, consumers, and constituents about higher prices (tariffs often passed on as costs to Americans), economic uncertainty, and strained relations with a key ally like Canada. It's seen as the first formal House vote on this aspect of Trump's policies.
It now heads to the Senate (which has previously passed similar measures with some Republican support, e.g., Sens. Rand Paul, Mitch McConnell, Susan Collins, and Lisa Murkowski in earlier votes).
President Trump is expected to veto it if it reaches his desk.
Trump responded critically before/during the vote, warning on Truth Social that Republicans voting against tariffs would face political consequences in elections/primaries, emphasizing tariffs as key to economic and national security.
No full overturn has occurred yet—the tariffs remain in effect pending further action (Senate vote, potential veto, etc.). This could be the start of more congressional challenges to Trump's broader tariff strategy.
