Fastest EVM Blockchains: BSC and Polygon
BNB Smart Chain (BSC) reached 378 in real TPS during a surge in on-chain activity on December 7, 2023. This makes BSC the fastest blockchain among EVMs, but it ranks only third overall, reaching less than half the throughput speed of Sui.
Similarly, the inscriptions frenzy had Polygon recording 190 in real TPS on November 16, 2023. Therefore, Polygon is currently the fastest among the major Ethereum scaling solutions, being 8.4 times faster than Ethereum itself, but falling further behind the top 3 fastest blockchains.
In other words, individual Ethereum scaling solutions and layer 2s have yet to surpass other Layer 1s in terms of actual transaction speed. This may be due, in part, to the lower number of on-chain transactions in Ethereum scaling solutions, leading to slower realized TPS for these blockchains.
In total, Ethereum and the top ten scaling solutions record 500 real TPS in total, putting their combined transaction speeds ahead of BSC, but still remain slower than Solana and Sui. Besides Polygon, 4 other scaling solutions that have proven to be faster than Ethereum (23 TPS) include Arbitrum (59 TPS), Linea (56 TPS), Base (37 TPS), and Mantle (25 TPS).
