One of the year's biggest DeFi hacks just went live again.

The wallets tied to the Drift Protocol exploit have resumed moving funds after two months of quiet. Trackers spotted about 25,700 $ETH (~$61.6M) flowing into Tornado Cash Monday in two hours — first movement since late summer.

Lookonchain's tally says the same wallet group still controls around 81,864 ETH (~$195M). Earlier snapshots differ — Onchain Lens ~13,400 ETH, PeckShield ~21,300 ETH — because each was captured at a different point in the sweep. Exact figures are tracker-reported.

Why it matters: the April 1 attack took ~$285M from the Solana perps venue, and Mandiant attributed it to a North Korea-linked group. With ~$195M able to move at any moment, every laundering round is a live overhang. Drift's DFX recovery pool, opened Oct 1, holds barely $3.1M against nearly $300M in claims.

还记得今年4月1日 Solana 永续合约所 Drift 被盗约2.85亿美元那件事吗?今天(10月20日)链上追踪发现,相关钱包开始把 ETH 分批打进 Tornado Cash 混币器。

🔹 存入规模:约1.34万至2.57万枚 ETH,价值约3200万至6156万美元
🔹 手法:每次100 ETH,短时间内连续多笔
🔹 还有一个钱包目前仍持有约1.95亿美元的 ETH

当初的攻击并不是代码漏洞,而是社会工程:多签签名人被攻破,攻击者塞进一个假代币,把 USDC 等资产抽走后跨链到以太坊。Drift 之后更名为 Velocity DEX,重建了安全体系,也在推进用户追偿。

我的看法:钱一旦进了混币器,追踪难度会大幅上升,追回的希望又少了一截。这件事最值得记住的一点是,多签不等于安全,签名的"人"才是最薄弱的环节。

10月10日：Triple-A攻击者已将4970枚ETH（约1240万美元）转入Tornado Cash。

该攻击者7月从Triple-A金库窃取约1180万美元，跨链至以太坊兑换；9月6日拆分至两个地址，10月9日合并至同一钱包，随后以49笔100 ETH和7笔10 ETH存入Tornado Cash，其中一笔含此前从混币器提取的资产。

Washington dropped a mixer rule this week, but the Tornado Cash case is not going away.

Per Cointelegraph, the DOJ cited a September 25 appeals ruling that upheld the Bitcoin Fog conviction to argue that Roman Storm's case belongs in New York. Storm was convicted in August 2025 on one count, the jury deadlocked on others, his acquittal motion is still pending, and a retrial is set for April 26, 2027.

In my view, the split is striking: Treasury is stepping back from new mixer reporting while prosecutors keep pressing a case over code built for $ETH users. That tension will shape how privacy tools get built in the US.

📊 被制裁到连域名都续不起，Tornado Cash的用户被钓鱼$230万

Tornado Cash，那个被OFAC制裁的混币器。制裁之后，官方域名到期，团队续不上，直接被人抢注。

8月20号，一个用户点了浏览器里存了几年的旧书签，跳进了假的tornado.cash。页面一模一样，用户照常存币，攻击者在后台截走了提款要用的私密note。

1,010个ETH没了，按现价算大概$230万。一个用户，一次点击。

这还不是孤例。过去12个月，同类过期域名钓鱼累计卷走将近4,000个ETH。

链上追过去，钱先换成BTC走Whirlpool混了一圈，又回到以太坊和Tornado Cash。混币器的用户，被用混币器洗了。

制裁本来要掐死这个协议。协议没死，用它的普通人先赔了钱。团队连守住自己网站的能力都没了，锅全甩给散户。

🌀 Roman Storm’s Tornado Cash retrial has been pushed to April 2027.

A U.S. federal judge has scheduled the retrial of Roman Storm, co-founder and developer of Tornado Cash, for April 26, 2027, with the final pretrial conference set for April 20.

Storm was convicted in August 2025 on one count related to operating an unlicensed money-transmitting business, while the jury could not reach a verdict on the more serious money-laundering and sanctions-evasion charges.

Those unresolved charges are now heading toward another trial.

Storm is also seeking immunity, arguing that the case raises broader questions about whether developers should be held criminally responsible for software they helped create.

And that’s what makes this case much bigger than Tornado Cash.

If writing open-source financial software can potentially create criminal liability years later, where exactly does the line between developer and operator get drawn?

The retrial is now almost a year away.
