Eleven days ago Binance put the Monitoring Tag on $BICO and $CVC . I waited before writing about it, because the first week after a tag is noise. Here is what the second week looks like.

First, what the tag actually is. Binance introduced it in July 2023 for tokens that "exhibit notably higher volatility and risks". Practically it means two things: you pass a quiz before you can trade them, and you repeat it every 90 days. Binance then runs "periodic project reviews" against its usual list: team commitment, development activity, volume and liquidity. Nothing in that notice says delisting.

But I read the EPIC and QUICK delisting notice from 14 Oct, and the review criteria there are word for word the same list. So the tag is not a verdict. It is the same exam, taken in public.

How the market graded it so far: BICO is -23% over 30 days and CVC -16%, against BTC +2% (CoinMarketCap, 20 Oct, 18:06 UTC). The last 7 days were calmer, -6% and -8%. Both are small, around $16M and $22M in market cap, with the full 1 billion supply already out. There is no unlock to blame for the drop, so the tag is the only dated event on the chart.

The thing I'd actually watch is volume, not price. The quiz removes casual buyers, and thin volume is on the review list. A token can fail that test quietly.

My view: this is not a setup. It is a token on probation with no date for the next hearing. If the tag comes off at a review, that is a different post.

A quiz every 90 days. That is what it now takes to trade $BICO and $CVC on Binance, since both received the Monitoring Tag on 9 Oct.

What the tag is, in Binance's own terms (notice of 26 Jul 2023): a label for tokens that "exhibit notably higher volatility and risks" than the rest of the list. To trade them on Spot you accept the terms and pass a quiz, and repeat the quiz every 90 days. Binance then runs "periodic project reviews" against criteria like team commitment, development activity, trading volume and liquidity, and tags are added or removed from there.

What the tag is not: a delisting notice. Binance's wording stops at "review". But the review criteria are the same list that appears in every delisting notice, including the one for EPIC and QUICK on 14 Oct.

Since the tag, the market has treated it as a warning. Over 7 days BICO is -15% and CVC -17%, while BTC is -3%. Over 30 days: -25% and -22% against a flat BTC (CoinMarketCap, 18 Oct, 21:35 UTC). Market caps are small: about $16M for BICO and $21M for CVC, each with a 1 billion supply fully in circulation.

The quiz has a second effect that gets less attention: it filters out casual traders. If volume thins as a result, that thinner volume is itself one of the review criteria.

Two things would change the picture: the tag being removed at the next review, or volume holding up through it. Neither has a date.
