Seguramente han visto a los famosos pingüinos de Pudgy Penguins $PENGU por todos lados (¡hasta en las tiendas físicas!). Bueno, resulta que la empresa detrás de esta marca intentó expandirse creando su propia blockchain de Capa 2 llamada Abstract, y la historia no terminó como esperaban.

Acaban de anunciar que el 15 de diciembre la red apagará sus servidores definitivamente.

¿Qué pasó realmente?
Mantener una blockchain es carísimo y los números no daban. A pesar de que la red tuvo mucha actividad y albergó a marcas como Disney, lo que recaudaban en comisiones (unos $3.900 dólares diarios) no alcanzaba para cubrir los gigantescos costos operativos. El propio CEO confesó que perdieron "decenas de millones de dólares" en el proceso.

La decisión que sorprendió a todos:
Aquí viene lo interesante. En el mundo cripto, cuando un proyecto se queda sin liquidez, la "salida fácil" suele inventarse un token de la nada para financiarse a costa de los usuarios. Pero su CEO, Luca Netz, decidió no hacer eso. Prefirió asumir el golpe, cerrar la red de forma transparente y enfocar toda su energía y recursos en lo que sí les funciona: su exitosa marca de juguetes y su criptomoneda oficial $PENGU .

$ZEC refuses to give up $1,300.

While the market keeps bleeding, the Winklevoss twins just filed a spot Zcash ETF with the SEC — Nasdaq ticker WINK, 0.25% fee, physical ZEC held by Gemini.

Their own fund wants up to $100M in it. It would join Grayscale's ZCSH as the second ZEC ETF — for a coin up 735% in a year and now 10th by market cap.

My take: nobody files an ETF for a dead coin. If $1,300 holds, this is October's story.

Bitcoin slid under $84K and nearly everything bled red, but ZEC led the majors with a ~2% gain to about $1,360 (CoinDesk). Earlier today I posted about Grayscale's Zcash ETF pulling over $1B in its first month — then the Winklevoss twins filed their own at 0.25%, undercutting Grayscale's 2.5% fee by 90%.

My take: the market treats $ZEC like a trade. Institutions are starting to treat it like an allocation. When a coin holds up into a market-wide dump, that is the bid talking.

Grayscale charges 2.5% a year on its Zcash ETF. The Winklevoss twins just filed to launch one at 0.25%.

Winklevoss Asset Services filed a preliminary S-1 with the SEC for a spot Zcash ETF under the ticker WINK — direct ZEC holdings, Gemini as custodian, Nasdaq listing. That is one-tenth of what Grayscale's ZCSH charges, and ZCSH is the only live US spot Zcash fund: over $233M in inflows and nearly $890M in net assets in its first month. Winklevoss Capital also signaled up to $100M in share interest.

My take: a fee war starting this fast is the real signal. Big players do not fight over fees for a fad — they fight over demand that is here to stay. Grayscale proved the demand; now the twins want the crown. And Bitwise has filed too.
