Bitcoin and USDT are heading to Russia's biggest stock exchange, but there's a major regulatory twist.

Moscow Exchange plans to launch trading in $BTC, $ETH and Tether's USDT from December 1, bringing crypto trading onto the same platform Russians use to trade major stocks.

Trading will run from 06:50 to 23:50 Moscow time, with the National Clearing Centre handling settlement. However, retail investors will face restrictions: they must pass an eligibility test and can purchase up to 300,000 rubles (around $3,700) in crypto annually through a single broker. Qualified investors will have no such limit.

The interesting part is the regulatory contradiction. Both Moscow Exchange and its clearing house are under U.S. sanctions, while USDT is issued by Tether, a company that freezes wallets linked to sanctioned entities. How that policy will apply to USDT held through the exchange's clearing system remains an open question.

Russia is clearly looking to bring more crypto activity into its domestic financial system instead of leaving it entirely to offshore exchanges and peer-to-peer markets.
