Kaylub Giamanco, the father who stopped an active shooter at a Bend, Oregon elementary school last week, recounted the incident publicly for the first time.
Giamanco described hearing children pleading for their lives and gunfire erupting inside the school. He army-crawled through a shot-out window, entered a breezeway near a special needs classroom, and chambered a round in his weapon.
Through a window, he spotted a teacher struggling with the gunman over a rifle. Realizing the shooter hadn't detected him, Giamanco opened the door and fired, neutralizing the threat.
"I told myself, this is probably the last thing that I'm ever going to do," Giamanco said. "People are going to die. I have to go in."
No students or staff were killed in the incident.
