动察 Beating AI News: AI infrastructure company Prime Intellect, valued at $1 billion, has announced the acquisition of open-source vision model company Moondream. The latter has a team of fewer than 10 people and previously raised $4.5 million. The acquisition amount was not disclosed. The two founders will join Prime Intellect to lead inference acceleration and multimodal model research.Moondream's models can identify boxes in warehouses, locate items on shelves, and analyze real-time video. The latest Moondream 3.1 has 9 billion total parameters, activating only 2 billion per pass, and the entire model family exceeds 5 million downloads per month. However, the more critical asset in this acquisition is the Photon inference engine. It can merge large numbers of scattered GPU operations into combined execution, reducing hardware wait times. Prime Intellect says that on a single H100, Photon can complete more than 60 Moondream inferences per second, enough to support real-time video analysis.Prime Intellect previously mainly provided infrastructure for Agent training, reinforcement learning, and more, and just launched the Prime Inference platform in early October this year. After the acquisition, Moondream 3.1 has been integrated into the platform, and Photon has also begun providing inference acceleration for Clef and Clef Flash. The company plans to further apply this technology to video, voice, and computer-operation Agents, enabling enterprises to complete the training, optimization, and deployment of multimodal models on the same platform. The Moondream brand will be retained.
