Seven of the UK's biggest banks just moved real customer money as tokens 👀

Barclays, HSBC, Lloyds, Monzo, Nationwide, NatWest and Santander completed the first live interbank payments with tokenized sterling deposits, including remortgage payments and a consumer purchase. Quant built the shared platform, and the UK Treasury called it "practical, real-world benefits".

The detail that matters: these tokens stay bank deposits, with the usual deposit protection, which puts them in a different lane from stablecoins. Next, the group plans to test settling digital assets with the same tokenized money.
