The 4x volume ratio is a real signal of capital rotation, but the data shows it's spot-driven, not the leveraged frenzy that fuels a parabolic BTC run.

Altcoin spot volume hitting nearly 4x Bitcoin's is the highest since September 2025. Glassnode notes similar spikes have historically coincided with local tops in Bitcoin, because the shift to higher-risk assets often happens when BTC momentum is cooling.

The rotation is happening while Bitcoin consolidates in a tight $82,500-$85,000 range. BTC dominance slipped below 60% to around 58.9%, and the ETH/BTC ratio just broke a five-year downtrend. That's capital moving out of BTC exposure, not fuel building for a BTC breakout.

The altcoin rally is spot-led. Perpetual futures open interest barely grew over 30 days, and fewer than half of tracked markets added positions. That means no leverage cascade, but also no leveraged fuel to blast BTC higher.

The warning signs are there. Altcoin deposits to exchanges surged to levels last seen in October 2025, the last market peak. 72.5% of tracked altcoins are outperforming BTC. CryptoQuant flagged a bearish RSI divergence on the TOTAL2 market cap, suggesting momentum is weakening even as prices push higher.
