Solana’s Alpenglow upgrade has entered public testnet testing, bringing the network closer to a major change in how consensus works.
Alpenglow replaces the current TowerBFT system with Votor, a new voting system designed to help validators reach finality much faster.
The upgrade targets transaction finality of around 150 milliseconds, compared with several seconds under the current setup.
Next, Alpenglow will move to Devnet testing before an observation period and eventual Mainnet-beta deployment.
The upgrade focuses on improving Solana’s speed and efficiency at the consensus level, while keeping the way users and applications interact with the network largely unchanged.
