🚨 Crypto world, brace yourselves! New York Attorney General (NYAG) Letitia James has filed a lawsuit against three major crypto companies: Gemini Trust Company (Gemini), Genesis Global Capital, LLC (Genesis), and Digital Currency Group, Inc. (DCG). They're accused of defrauding over 230,000 investors, including at least 29,000 New Yorkers, of more than $1 billion! 😱
Gemini allegedly lied to investors about its low-risk investment program, Gemini Earn, run with Genesis. The NYAG claims that Gemini knew Genesis' loans were undersecured and highly concentrated with one entity, Sam Bankman-Fried’s Alameda Research, but didn't reveal this to investors. 🤫
Genesis, its former CEO Soichiro Moro, parent company DCG, and DCG’s CEO Barry Silbert are also charged with defrauding investors and the public by trying to conceal over $1.1 billion in losses. The NYAG seeks to ban them from the financial investment industry in New York and seeks restitution for investors. 😮
This lawsuit could have significant implications for the crypto market, affecting liquidity, reputation, and innovation. It could also trigger more regulatory scrutiny and legal action from other authorities and jurisdictions. 🌩️
