While Bitcoin printed a $76,500 low overnight, $ZEC refused to follow it down — and that refusal now has a date attached.

On October 29, ZEC ran to $1,398, then one candle dumped to $1,207 and closed at $1,223, on nearly three times average volume. The next dipped to $1,180, then closed at $1,280, on about twice average volume. Sellers had the tape for one candle; buyers took it back in the next. One defended low, not a trend change — the rebound already faded to $1,251.

The fork is clean. Hold $1,180 and the NU7 clock does the talking: activation around November 5 at block 3,543,405, cutting block times from 75 to 25 seconds. Lose $1,180 and the dip-buy read dies.

The counterweight: the rebound stalled at $1,290, and a rally into an upgrade is exactly the kind of story that gets sold into.

I put ZEC's chart under the microscope today, and the loudest claim about it fails on contact: NU7 does not burn 22,309 ZEC.

Q: What happens to the Sprout pool coins?
A: They become unspendable at block 3,543,405 (~Nov 5). NU7 rejects v4 transactions — the only format that can move them — so the keys keep working while the door gets bricked. Cryptographically yours, functionally gone. Upgrades retire pools nobody uses.

Q: Then why is ZEC down 14% from its $1,368 top?
A: The news already happened. The height was merged Oct 21, hours after that top printed. Buy the rumor, sell the spec merge — the tape is retesting $1,110–$1,158.

Q: The part you hate?
A: NU7 is fully priced and everyone sees the same $1,337–$1,368 ceiling. A daily close under $1,100 sends it toward the pre-vote base near $1,050.

$ZEC just got a date for NU7, around Nov 5, and that's why I've got it on my radar. 🔒
NU7 makes blocks about three times faster. The date popped the price, then Thursday's Nasdaq selloff hit risk assets, and ZEC is near 1,173.90. Bloomberg also says early Bitcoin backers are leaning into Zcash.
I'm leaning bullish into the upgrade, but only while support at 1,150 holds. Grayscale's ZEC ETF has had four straight days of inflows, and I think ZEC could climb back toward 1,300 into the Nov 5 upgrade.
Support 1,150. Resistance 1,300. I'm wrong if it closes a day below 1,100.
Main risk is a hawkish Fed on Oct 28, or traders selling the NU7 news.

$ZEC has been stuck in the same box for two weeks and I think it resolves before NU7 goes live.

Range on the 4h is roughly 1,050 to 1,370. Tagged 1,368 on the 21st, got sold right back down, now sitting around 1,230. Still about 28% under the 1,698 top from late Sept, but even after that it's up ~150% in 90 days, so this is a coin that's been cooling off, not one that's dead.

What caught my eye: ZEC perps did ~$1.67B in volume on Binance in the last 24h, more than SOL. But open interest went from ~472k to ~438k ZEC since that rejection, so longs got shaken out instead of piling in. Funding is basically flat and more accounts are short than long (L/S ratio 0.78). Nobody's crowded on the long side here.

The catalyst is real too. NU7 mainnet is set for around Nov 5-6, 25s blocks instead of 75s, and 60% of tx fees get pulled from circulation. Zcash Foundation shipped Zebra 7.0.0 for it on the 22nd.

My line: 4h close above 1,370 and I think the 1,500s are back on the table. Lose ~1,195 and it's probably another trip to 1,050-1,075 first. Watching which one breaks 👀

2. Price is 1,242 USDT in a 1,226 to 1,368 range, 16 off the low and 126 off the high, yet the 7d is still +9.39%, so sellers owned today and the week's gain survived it. ⚖️

3. 24h volume is 325M, above Solana's 217M and second only to Ethereum's 666M on the board, so real size changed hands on the way down, this isn't a thin fade.
