Drift Protocol, a Solana-based decentralized exchange, was exploited for approximately $285 million, making it one of the largest DeFi hacks of 2026. The attacker compromised the admin key, gaining control over protocol-level permissions, and introduced a fake token called CarbonVote Token (CVT) to manipulate the oracle price. They then drained real assets, including USDC, JLP, SOL, and wrapped BTC, from the protocol's vaults.
The exploit resulted in a 37% drop in the DRIFT token price and a significant decrease in the protocol's total value locked (TVL), from $309 million to $41 million. Drift Protocol has suspended deposits and withdrawals and is coordinating with security firms and law enforcement to recover stolen assets.
Meanwhile Circle didn't freeze the USDC because they thought it was April fool Frank and they Decided not to freeze the USDC instead of looking online .
