Honestly..... I thought the 21X license was mainly about making things faster. But the more I sat with the idea, the more incomplete that framing felt. In physics, removing a step doesn't only reduce time; it also removes a place where errors can acumulate. That distinction kept bothering me.
If that's the logic behind 21X, then Dusk plugging into it starts to sound less like a simple connection and more like a change in where friction can appear.
I initially pictured the license as important and Dusk as something that benefits from the connection. But that assumption became less clear the more I consdered them together.
The interesting part isn't simply that another layer has been added..... It's that some of the intermediate points a process might otherwise have to pass through could potentially be reduced.
And that makes me wonder what actually changes when a system loses one of those steps.
Do fewer handoffs mean fewer opportunities for something to go wrong? Or does moving the process elsewhere simply change where that complexity lives?
I'm still thinking about that distinction. Time will probably tell. 🤔
The custody piece on Dusk is one of those things that looks boring until you sit with why institutions actually stall. SaaS wallets are a deal breaker for a regulated shop. You hand key use and policy control to a vendor in someone else’s cloud. Regulators do not like that. If the vendor goes down or gets a request, your treasury is not really yours. Same as leaving the company safe in a shared office you do not control. That is why the Cordial setup matters. On-prem, self-hosted. The institution runs the nodes, keeps the policies, and signs from inside its own perimeter. Dusk Vault sits on top so regulated assets can live on-chain without the usual wrapper-and-hope model. Trust shifts. You are no longer betting the vendor stays honest and online. You are betting the software and your own ops hold up. Adoption still depends on places like NPEX running size through it. Setup is heavier than a SaaS dashboard, which will slow some teams. Does this on-prem route actually unlock more institutional flow, or does the extra operational work keep the same names on the sidelines? Curious how others weigh that trade-off.
