#baby $BABY My dog has one trick that I'm still proud of. I put a bowl of food in front of him, he sits down, looks at it, literally trembles with impatience, but does not touch a single piece until I say the permissive word "It is possible." It is worth saying "no", and he sits for at least a minute, at least five, as long as it takes. All the power over what happens to food is not in the food or the dog, but in one team.
Watching this again, I realized that this is an almost literal description of how the permissive model works in Trustless Bitcoin Vaults at @BabylonLabs_io In most DeFi protocols, the opposite happens.: as soon as an asset gets into someone else's contract or to the custodian, the decision on what to do with it is no longer made by the owner, but by the one who manages this contract or service. The asset seems to be lying in an open bowl, which can be reached by anyone with access to the system. TBVS reverse this logic. Bitcoin can be physically located inside a contract, used as collateral, and participate in yield strategies, but no action with it takes place without a permissive command from the key owner. This is not about the fact that access to the asset is completely closed, but about the fact that the last word always remains with the one who owns the asset, just like my command "it is possible" before the bowl. Even if the protocol on the other side really wants to do something with the collateral, it simply won't happen without the owner's signature.
It seems to me that this model should be the norm for bitcoin DeFi, and not a pleasant bonus for individual protocols. An asset can be hungry for work, participate in dozens of strategies at the same time, but the final decision should be left to a single word from the one to whom it belongs. 🔐🐕
#baby $BABY Ledger and Aave Make Trustless Bitcoin Vaults Available to Millions of BTC Holders
Today I want to analyze not the TBV mechanics themselves, which I have already written about before, but how @BabylonLabs_io builds bridges between technology and ordinary users through partnerships with major market players. Because any cryptographic design, even the most elegant one, is useless if it is inconvenient to use, and here the team clearly understands this problem.
The first partnership worth paying attention to is the integration with Ledger, a company that has sold over 8 million hardware wallets worldwide. Now, interaction with Trustless Bitcoin Vaults can be confirmed directly from the device via the Clear Signing function, meaning the user sees complete and understandable information on the device screen about what they are signing, rather than blindly trusting the browser interface. This is a crucial point for me, because most scams and losses in DeFi happen precisely because of opaque transactions that people sign without looking. Babylon co-founder David Tse bluntly formulated the problem that this approach solves: bitcoin remains the largest crypto asset, but so far most of it cannot participate in digital finance without loss or without intermediaries, and TBV removes this dilemma completely.
The second area, no less important, is the partnership with Aave Labs. Through the new Aave V4 architecture, built on the Hub and Spoke principle, Babylon is developing a dedicated Bitcoin-Spoke, which for the first time allows native BTC to be deposited on Aave at scale and without a single wrapped token.
I'm returning today to a topic that has been occupying my thoughts for a long time, namely how @BabylonLabs_io builds the architecture of Trustless Bitcoin Vaults. Usually, when bitcoin enters DeFi, one of two scenarios occurs: either the coins are transferred to the custodian, which then becomes a single point of failure, or BTC is wrapped in a synthetic token across a bridge, and bridges are hacked with frightening regularity. TBV is based on a fundamentally different logic, and it seems to me that this is the key value of the protocol for $BABY holders.
The bottom line is that Bitcoin doesn't physically leave its home network. Coins are blocked in a special script directly on Bitcoin, and the control of this script remains with the owner himself through his private key, and does not pass to a third party. At the same time, such a secured BTC becomes a programmable collateral that can be used in DeFi protocols on other networks without losing control over the original asset. The difference sounds technical at first glance, but in practice it means that the risk of custodial hacking or bankruptcy of an intermediary simply disappears from the equation.
What is particularly interesting from the engineering side is the separation of rights. The coin owner can delegate the right to borrow against collateral to liquidity providers or yield protocols, but the custodian remains with him, and he can withdraw his BTC back at any time according to the rules sewn into the bitcoin script itself, and not according to the promises of a centralized platform. This removes the classic DeFi dilemma, where for the sake of profitability you have to sacrifice storage security, and here you can get both at the same time.
