Lowering Ethereum’s gas limit is not a discount code.
The gas limit caps how much computational work your transaction can consume. It is different from the price paid per unit of gas. If an included smart-contract transaction runs out of gas during execution, its changes are reversed, but the gas supplied is still consumed.
A higher limit does not automatically mean you spend it all: unused gas is not charged. The actual work performed matters.
Practical takeaway: review your wallet’s estimate instead of cutting the limit just to make the displayed maximum look cheaper. To assess costs, check both the estimated gas usage and the price per unit.
The risk: an artificially low limit can turn a cost-saving attempt into a paid failure.
