SOLANA’S BIGGEST UPGRADE JUST WENT LIVE — 150MS FINALITY IS THE TARGET ⚡

Solana has activated its Alpenglow consensus upgrade on mainnet, marking a major overhaul of how the network confirms transactions. The switch happened at slot 459,653,000 on October 21, replacing the long-running TowerBFT consensus protocol. The goal: cut transaction finality from roughly 12.8 seconds to around 150 milliseconds. 🚀

The upgrade introduces Votor, a new consensus system that simplifies the path to finality. That could make Solana more attractive for trading, payments and applications where waiting for confirmation matters. But 150ms is the target, not a guarantee that every transaction will finalize at that speed under all network conditions.

This is a major technical milestone, but the real test starts now: live performance, validator stability and adoption by apps and exchanges. Can Alpenglow turn Solana’s speed advantage into an even bigger competitive edge?
