Real-world asset tokenization is quietly becoming DeFi's most consequential unlock.

For years, DeFi was a closed loop — crypto collateral backing crypto loans, trading crypto assets. Productive but self-referential. RWA tokenization breaks that loop by bringing off-chain assets — Treasury bills, private credit, real estate, trade receivables — onto public blockchains as programmable, composable collateral.

The numbers are already moving. Tokenized US Treasuries have grown from near zero to billions in on-chain value within two years. Major protocols now use them as yield-bearing reserve assets, replacing idle stablecoin reserves with instruments that earn the risk-free rate. That changes DeFi's fundamental economics: even low-risk vaults can generate sustainable base yield without relying purely on token emissions.

For $ETH and $BNB, RWA integration deepens the utility case for their respective ecosystems. Ethereum's institutional credibility and smart contract depth make it the primary venue for institutional-grade RWA issuance. BNB Chain's low-cost settlement layer positions it for high-frequency RWA applications like trade finance and micro-lending.

$ADA's formal verification approach is being explored for regulated asset issuance where auditability matters.

RWA isn't hype — it's DeFi graduating from a sandbox into global capital markets. The protocols that nail compliant, composable RWA rails will capture institutional liquidity at a scale retail cycles never could.
