🇮🇷 Iran is trying to make it a little cheaper for foreign ships to keep coming.

The government has temporarily suspended a 10% charge on freight fees for foreign vessels carrying oil, gas and other liquid petroleum products in and out of Iran.

And the timing makes sense.

The U.S. naval blockade has already hammered Iran’s seaborne oil exports.

That extra 10% was making shipments even more expensive.

So Tehran is dropping it for now, hoping lower costs will give foreign fleets a little more reason to keep carrying Iranian cargo.

US has ‘no good way out’ of Hormuz crisis: Ex-official 🚨

Alan Eyre, a former US State Department official, says every day the Strait of Hormuz remains closed, “the economic consequences compound”.

“So the US is faced with no good way out of this.”

He said that while China does not want tolls in the strait, as Iran is proposing, if Chinese ships and cargo are granted free passage through the waterway, then Beijing “has less of a motivation to get rid of the tolling system”.

“As a practical matter, I don’t think the recent bilateral summit between the US and China will result in increased pressure on Iran to release control of the strait with its new system,” Eyre added.
